Music can be a bridge connecting people from different backgrounds, ages, and ways of life. Hear and Now brings together carers, people living with dementia and memory loss, and young people to sing and perform together. Based in Leicester, the group collaborated with a largely South Asian diaspora to explore stereotypes, memory, and shared intergenerational language, creating music and performances through collaborative workshops. Their final show celebrated 74 participants performing nostalgic music from TV, film and advertising, such as the iconic Vision On theme tune and songs from Bollywood films like Anari and Dum Dum Diga Diga.

Music is a vital part of dementia therapy: it can help people with dementia express their feelings and ideas, help them remember things they thought forgotten, and improve their overall wellbeing.
